What happened next was all good. Sandisk cards have a life time warranty (that must be limited in some way) but it applied to this card and also to an ancient 4GB Extreme CF card that finally stopped functioning after many years. The problem with the latter is that they are no longer made to enable giving you a replacement. With the former, Customer Service was excellent and the RMA request process was easy to get a replacement. You need to follow the protocol which involves eliminating the possibility of it being a fake card and provide proof of purchase. I had not registered this card or for that matter most of my cards. That too is necessary, and (blush) sensible. However, I am pleased with the service Sandisk provided in standing behind its products. To be fair to Lexar, I could have sent back the cards and card readers that failed but I do not want Lexar quality replacements. I have lost trust in my individual case. I am not saying that everyone is having this degree of problem with Lexar or that it will happen to you. Sites like Amazon can only offer one individual's experiences at a time. In my case every Lexar card, six in a row, over 32GB was unreliable. That is enough to draw conclusions for my purposes.
The other message in this experience was that knock off cards appear to be a lot more common that I realized. However, there is a practical answer and one that is smart to take even without authentication as the primary goal. In order to catch that right from the beginning, simply register all cards and make sure from the start you have a genuine product with a bonafide identification code number. And of course it pays to be careful where you buy. In my case, I only buy from B&H and Amazon directly, not the partners.
I previously used the SanDisk ULTRA SD card. The ULTRA is much slower than the Extreme Pro. The much faster speed of the Extreme Pro improved the recording of ultra HD video. That's the main benefit of the Extreme Pro versus lesser SD cards.
PROS:
1. Sandisk manufactures rock-solid, reliable, long-lasting SD cards that work for years. I am still using Sandisk 4 GB SDs purchased over 5 years ago. Lesser brands don't often last that long.
2. The Extreme Pro is the best SD card for shooting HD video because of its fast Read / Write speeds. Again, I noticed an improvement over the slower ULTRA model.
3. The Extreme Pro is the right choice for use outdoors because it resists the effects of adverse environmental conditions.
CONS:
1. It is much more expensive than the lower-end SanDisk models.
2. The Extreme Pro is overkill for most consumers who don't regularly shoot HD video, which is about the only good reason to buy this card. (If you just need a SD card for storing data or multimedia files, then the EXTREME or even ULTRA models are more than adequate for less money.)
The VERDICT:
I am very happy with the EXTREME PRO because it works perfect for what I need it to do - shooting HD videos. However, I would not have bought it just to store files.

If you google the problem, you'll find that my problem with the A7III camera and these particular cards is pretty common but only with the newer cards (around 2018 & 2019). I've got a couple of these cards made a couple of years ago that work well with the camera.
Later edit: I just installed firmware update 2.1 to my A7III and now the camera does recognize the SanDisk Extreme Pro card.
One of my older of these cards that I was using in the A7III just came apart on me when I tried inserting it in the camera, the external case split and the "chip' fell out. I was able to put the chip back in a tape it back together long enough to rescue the pictures but that's the end for that card.
All of my older cameras used CF cards. They are quite a bit bigger than the SDXC cards but they are much more robust. Never had one of those disintegrate on me in close to 20 years shooting with them.

If you are somewhere where you need to take a series of photos quickly, like trying to catch a setting sun, this card will make a difference.
All you need to know is..
- It's a very fast and efficient card for professional video and photo production.
- Ultra fast writing and transfer speeds compared to others on the market.
Please try to double check to make sure you're not getting a fake card. The real cards have very little printing on the back of the card and the lock level should be grey; most fakes I've seen have a yellow lock level. The fonts are also different on the fakes card; you can see good examples of real vs fake cards on youtube.
